About Me
Chelsea Johnson, MS, RD, LDN, CSO
I have a Masters of Science in clinical nutrition with experience in oncology nutrition research. I am 1 of only 12 dietitians in the state of Tennessee who holds a Board Certified Specialist in Oncology (CSO) credential for registered dietitians. I have worked in oncology for a majority of my years practicing as a dietitian and have a passion for coming alongside cancer survivors during their healing journey.
In my free time, you can find me cooking for my family, trying new restaurants, hiking in the Smoky Mountains, cuddling my rescue dog, and cheering on the Tennessee Volunteers!

Cancer has touched the life of my family and has propelled me to be a partner for those looking to take control of their health. In addition to oncology nutrition, I have experience working with a variety of diagnoses and life circumstances. Patients have come to me with understandable fears from a new medical situation: cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, bowel anatomy changes, etc. I have seen those same patients flourish from evidence-based nutrition guidance. My goal is to equip you to feel confident choosing foods that help prevent and manage medical diagnoses while still enjoying your favorite foods.
If you are looking for a compassionate, energetic dietitian anchored in evidence-based practice, I would love to come alongside you on your health journey!

Got Questions?
What is a registered dietitian nutritionist?
According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) are food and nutrition experts with a minimum of a graduate degree from an accredited dietetics program and who completed a supervised practice requirement, passed a national exam and continued professional development throughout their careers.
“Registered dietitian nutritionist” is a legally protected title. Only practitioners who have completed specific educational requirements, passed a national exam and continue learning through ongoing education can use these titles and credentials. However, there is no specific, standardized meaning for “nutritionist.” Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist. So whether someone calls themselves “dietitian” or “nutritionist,” check for credentials to ensure they are qualified nutrition experts.
Would I benefit from meeting with a registered dietitian?
As your dietitian, I can provide expertise on how to achieve your health goals and the resources to be successful long-term. I act as your non-judgmental accountability partner, cheerleader, and go-to expert! No quick fixes, fads, or restrictive diets- just science.
How many visits do I need with a dietitian?
The number of visits recommended is based on your specific health goals. Once we set goals together, I typically follow up weekly or every 2 weeks until a client feels confident spacing out appointments to thrive independently.
Do I need a referral?
You do not need a referral to schedule but must provide a medical providers name to contact for documentation. Providers can refer directly from the referral tab on this site.
Do you take insurance?
Yes! I am currently in-network with Anthem, Aetna, Blue Care, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Golden Rule, Optum, Oxford, United Healthcare, United Medical Resources, and more. I always encourage clients to speak directly to their insurance provider for information on specific plan coverage. You can ask your insurance provider about Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes 97802 and 97803 for details on your specific plan coverage.
I also offer self-pay options for individual and group sessions. Due to licensure laws, I am currently able to see patients in the following states: AK, AZ, CA, CO, CT, HI, ID, IN, IL, MA, NH, NY, OK, OR, PA, TX, UT, VT, WA, WV, TN, WI, WY, MI, NJ, VA.
